Oval Envelope
Use an invisible oval to control width and turning space.
Narrow envelope
A compressed oval can make the counter feel pinched and force the return curve to turn too abruptly. Learners compare where that compression first becomes visible.
Neutral envelope
The exercise identifies a practical middle range rather than one fixed measurement. The learner checks how the capital relates to the x-height and nearby lowercase writing.
Wide envelope
Over-wide capitals can appear slow and disconnected from the rest of the word. Learners test how much width can increase before the initial dominates the line.
Axis and tilt
The oval’s visual axis is compared with the writing slant. The goal is consistent energy, not geometric perfection.
